Surrounding Water Tour 2015: Save the Wild UP
Why should we work towards a Great Lakes Commons and how ?
Another Surrounding Water stop was in Marquette, MI, hosted by Save the Wild UP. Kathleen Heideman and Alexandra Maxwell, along with everyone else involved in this group is working hard to educate people about the impacts of the Eagle Mine, and other land issues which directly impact Lake Superior. Specifically there are some very important wetlands that are being threatened by potential road development related to Eagle mine.

Kathleen recently wrote an open letter to the Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton addressing the danger of the proposed Polymet mine that would put the BWCA at serious risk. Eagle mine is being used as an example for an environmentally friendly mine to help push the Polymet one through. In her letter, Kathleen does a great job highlighting why Eagle mine is a long way from friendly. Save the Wild UP plans many exciting events to involve the community and educate concerned citizens about ongoing issues, please reach out to them or myself if you need more info about how to get involved.
